Greece’s unemployment rate fell slightly to 27.2 percent in May, from 27.3 percent in April, according to an announcement by the Greek statistics agency ELSTAT on Thursday.
After peaking close to 28% in 2013, the unemployment rate has been declining at a very slow pace, still being more than twice the euro zone’s average rate of 11.6% in May. It remains the highest in Europe with some 1.3 million Greeks without work.
Labor market conditions for the country’s young population remain extremely difficult, as 53.1% of Greek youth remains jobless.
