Kyriakos Griveas and his wife Anastasia Vatsika were released on conditions on Monday after testifying to the examining prosecutor for Corruption Giorgos Andreadis in relation to the Hellenic Postbank unsecured loans case.
Following a unanimous decision by the examining investigator and the prosecutor, Griveas was released on a 500,000-euro bail and not allowed to leave the country, while he is required to report to a local police station twice a month. His wife was released on a 100,000-euro bail and is required to report to a local police station twice a month.
According to the findings of the Assistant Attorney against Corruption Popi Papandreou, Griveas and Vatsika received a loan of 17 million euros for C & C International Limited Commercial Hotel and Holding Company in March and July of 2009.
According to the charges against the couple, this unsecured loan (since the couple’s assets did not exceed 3 million euros) was approved by Hellenic Postbank at the time when its President was Angelos Filippidis who is accused for the same case and was used for acquiring three companies of personal interests in Cyprus.
The couple arrived in Greece from London on Wednesday, after an international warrant was issued for their extradition to Greece.
As their attorney stated, the two defendants intend to assist the Greek justice system and will try to prove that the loans received from Hellenic Postbank did not go in their personal bank accounts.
