Hardouvelis – Schaeuble: We Should Find a Common Solution for Greece's Next Day

An hour-long meeting was held earlier today between Greek Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis and his German counterpart Wolfgang Schaeuble, on the sidelines of the OECD World Forum held in Berlin.

The two Ministers, amongst other, focused on the upcoming review of the Greek economy by the Troika, the progress of the country’s adjustment program and the preventive support line that will be in place as of 2015. After the meeting, Hardouvelis contacted Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and informed him about the discussions.

According to information, the day after was the main issue discussed – with no mentions of the Troika as it was a discussion between two countries – and the two men agreed on entering a new era, both in bilateral relations and between the European partners as a whole. In addition, Hardouvelis underlined the understanding of the German side and appeared confident that Berlin intends to help Athens, as it desires a strong Greece and a strong Euro. He also revealed that it was agreed to find a commonly accepted solution over Greece’s progress after exiting the bailout program.
