Rheinmetall Fined for Greek Armament Deals

Rheinnmetall, a German arms and defense systems supplier, received a 37.1-million-euro fine for bribing Greek officials.
A company representative is being accused of bribing officials in Greece in order to close armament deals. The prosecutors from Bremen, Germany, who were researching the case, have decided to impose a fine to the company’s subsidiary Rheinmetall Defence Electronics.
According to the company, the fine payment “will end legal proceedings over the alleged unauthorized payments.” Furthermore, Rheinmetall stated that the group was accused of “failing to detect and prevent suspicious payments to sales partners due to inadequate internal controls.” However, the company did not elaborate on the matter.
The investigation was part of a wide corruption inquiry regarding armament deals in Greece .
