Greek Seamen Worried by Norman Atlantic Probe’s Slow Pace

Norman Atlantic00Four seafarer trade unions argued that the investigation into the causes of the “Norman Atlantic” ferry fire is being delayed alleging lack of information as regards the exact number of the victims and the missing.
The search and rescue operations were run by Italy, where the ferry was registered. The ship was leased by Greek shipping company ANEK to run between Greece (Patras and Igoumenitsa) and Italy (Ancona).
In a press conference in Athens, the union representatives underlined that the tragedy highlighted the need to reexamine the navigation safety standards to protect human lives at sea and unveiled proposals on what needs to be done based on past experience from other maritime accidents.
