EC Commission President: Euro Zone Will Not Accept Tsipras' Plan

junckerEuropean Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Monday advised Greece’s new Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras not to promise too much to Greek people because the euro zone will not accept his proposals.
In the aftermath of Tsipras’ announcement of the new government policy on Sunday, Juncker told reporters that the leftist Greek premier had “only partly addressed” Europe’s concerns about his plans, according to Reuters. The EC president made that statement before talks with Germany’s Social Democrats (SPD).
During his speech, Tsipras promised the Greek parliament and people that he will abolish Greece’s austerity bailout program. Instead, he stated, he will renegotiate the state debt and scrap all austerity reforms the existing bailout program requires.
Greece’s new government is heading towards a direct confrontation with its European partners as they have refused to conform to Europe’s — and especially Germany’s — insistence on the extension of the current bailout program.
