President Anastasiades Visits Moscow to Discuss Cyprus Problem and Bilateral Relations

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, departed today for an official three-day official visit to Moscow. According to the Cypriot government, Anastasiades is expected to hold a meeting with his counterpart, Vladimir Putin, as well as with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and other Russian state officials, during which he will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis and Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides.

The Cypriot delegation is expected to table bilateral relations and international issues of mutual interest. Most importantly though, the Cypriot President will hold talks regarding the long-standing Cyprus problem. As explained by an official government press release issued prior to the visit, discussions will focus on the Cyprus problem, relations between Cyprus and Russia, and ways to further enhance them, European Union-Russia relations, the situation in Ukraine and regional developments in the Eastern Mediterranean. Furthermore, the two sides will sign numerous bilateral agreements on various cooperation fields.

During his three-day stay in the Russian capital until February 27, the Cypriot President will also deliver a speech on the Cyprus problem at the State Institute of International Relations and meet Russian media representatives. In addition, he will hold meetings with State Duma Chairman Sergey Naryshkin and Federation Council Chairman Valentina Matviyenko. On the last day of his official visit, Anastasiades is scheduled to visit Saint Petersburg for a meeting with the local governor.
