Germany Pushes Greece to Expedite Reforms List

tsipras-merkel_05022015072314With Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras due to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Monday, Germany is putting more pressure on Greece to expedite reforms.
SPD Parliamentary Group Chairman Thomas Oppermann said that Germany is losing patience with Greece and he expects Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Berlin on Monday with a comprehensive list of reforms.
Speaking to Der Spiegel magazine, in a report entitled “Social Democrats Lose their Patience with Tsipras,” the German politician said that Athens must convince Europe that it is willing to proceed with the reforms and honor the agreements. He said that Athens must show that it is willing to battle corruption, restructure public administration, tackle tax evasion and create a better tax system.
Referring to Monday’s meeting between the two leaders, the German politician said, “Tsipras has undertaken to draw up a complete list of more specific reforms and I expect him to present it at the meeting with Angela Merkel on Monday. I want to know at last if Greece will actually implement reforms or not.”
On the subject of war reparations, Oppermann said that Germany has the responsibility to rectify for   Nazi crimes but this issue is not related to the European economic crisis and the Greek debt.
Oppermann reiterated what Merkel has said, that there won’t be any further aid unless Greece implements reforms. He also repeated what many European Union officials are saying regarding the possibility of a Grexit; That Greece’s exit from the Eurozone would be catastrophic, calling it “the worst disaster in Europe’s history.”
