Greek Unemployment Rate Still Highest in EU‏

Greek unemployment rate rose slightly to 26% of the workforce in December, from 25.9% in November, to remain the highest in the European Union, followed by Spain (23.2% in February), Eurostat said on Tuesday.
The EU executive’s statistics agency, in a report released here, said that the number of unemployed people in Greece totaled 1.23 million in December, with the unemployment rate among men at 23.4%, among women at 29.3% and among young people aged below 25 years old at 51.2%.
The unemployment rate eased to 11.3% in the Eurozone in February, from 11.4 in January, the lowest rate since May 2012.
In the EU, the unemployment rate fell to 9.8% from 9.9%. In total, there were 23.8 million unemployed people in the EU and 18.2 million in the Eurozone. Germany and Austria recorded the lowest unemployment rates.
