Greek Minister Lafazanis: 'If SYRIZA Misses Targets, it Must Go'

lafazanisGreek Minister of Production Reconstruction Panagiotis Lafazanis alluded that SYRIZA should hand over power, if the government is not able to secure an austerity-free program.
The Left Platform leader gave an interview with the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, where he noted that he was sure that the government can achieve its goal, however he stressed that if it is not possible, the SYRIZA should hand over the baton.
“There is nothing more repulsive or alien to me than the idea of power for power’s sake,” he said. “If we cannot succeed, the best thing we can do is hand over the baton. But we can, and will, succeed by showing determination, courage and dedication to our principles.”
Furthermore, Lafazanis pointed out that the country needs a positive coherent program and not just some red lines. “At this point Greece needs more than just some red lines to rescue certain critical achievements, no matter how much it is needed.”
“Our country urgently needs a positive and cohesive program that is progressive and will focus on debt relief, the supply of ample liquidity to the economy and growth based on production,” he added.
Referring to the Greek government’s discussions with Russia for the construction of a gas pipeline, Lafazanis noted that the negotiations are in the final stretch, while he appears confident that they will soon be able to finalize the agreement.
