Brussels Group Meetings on Greece to Resume on Saturday

European Central BankThe Brussels Group is expected to resume its meetings on Saturday. Council of Economic Advisors (SOE) President Giorgos Chouliarakis, Finance Ministry general secretary Nikos Theocharakis and Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis’ advisor Elena Panariti will participate from the Greek side.
International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s Rishi Goyal, European Commission’s Declan Costello and European Central Bank (ECB)’s Rasmus Rueffer will participate from the partners’ side, as representatives of the institutions.
According to Greek Finance Ministry officials, the contacts on a Brussels Group level will continue in Brussels until April 23, a day before the Eurogroup in Riga, Latvia. The same sources said that the Greek government will present its comprehensive and detailed proposals and timetables to the institutions’ representatives.
Special emphasis will probably be given on tax issues. Greek government officials underlined that “red lines” are fully maintained and recessionary measures – such as salary and pension cuts or mass layoffs, which do not help the economy recover – will not be made acceptable. Deliberations on a technical staff level started in Athens on Tuesday and are focused on fiscal and labor issues.
