Olympiakos beat Barcelona 71-68
with a buzzer-beater three-pointer from Giorgios Printezis and qualified to the 2015 Euroleague Final Four in Madrid.
Giorgos Printezis has stunned the basketball world again! Three years since his famous shot that stung CSKA Moscow and awarded the Reds the Euroleague trophy, the 30-year-old forward took the final shot to cancel out the Catalans this time and send his team to the Final Four.
To get to that point, Olympiakos had to overcome a tremendous Barcelona that had them chasing the score for almost three quarters. It was just then that coach Giannis Sferopoulos subbed in Brent Petway, who unlocked Barca’s defense and with the help of captain Vasilis Spanoulis made back-to-back downtown shots that closed the third quarter at an even score (50-50).

The last 10′ saw both teams staying close to one another till it was time for an underdog to shine and that was Mantzaris who connected his second three-pointer in 45″ with less than a minute to go. Then a poor Tomic pass led to a Lafayette steal and a Printezis slam for a 66-65 edge with 39.5 seconds to go. Navarro made key free throws, but Spanoulis scored a short jumper with 8.3 seconds left. Mantzaris fouled Navarro, who only made 1 of 2 free throws to tie it at 68-68 with 5.2 seconds on the clock. Olympiacos had time for one last play and got the ball to Printezis, who buried a three on the buzzer as Peace and Friendship Stadium erupted with joy.

  • Vasilis Spanoulis is now second  in the Euroleague All-time scoring board with 2.742 points (179 games) behind Carlos Navarro who is the leader with 3,666 points in 276 games.
