Members of a solidarity organization called “Koinoniki Kouzina” (Social Kitchen) decided to cook a meal at Omonoia Square in downtown Athens and eat along with the migrants who reside in the area. Hunger has no color or ethnicity as humanity surpasses prejudice and stereotypes.
Greeks are well aware of what it means to be a refugee or a migrant. The members of Koinoniki Kouzina have been helping migrants for many years. They cook in various neighborhoods around Athens and then share the food with the homeless or people in need.
The numerous waves of migrants that have flooded Omonoia Square over the last few days did not go unnoticed. Konstantinos Polychronopoulos, the man behind the idea of Koinoniki Kouzina, along with a number of volunteers, set up their cooking gear at the Square and offered as much food as they could to the people who needed it the most.
“We plan to eat with the refugees, this is not a soup kitchen,” said Polychronopoulos to Greek online newspaper Newsit. A total of 150 servings of spaghetti were cooked.
