Dijsselbloem: 'Europe is Prepared for Any Greek Outcome'

DijsselbloemAs far as Greeks are concerned, Jeroen Dijsselbloem is quickly becoming one of the most hated European politicians, surpassing even German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Over the last 24 hours, the Eurogroup President appeared unwilling to sympathize with Greece’s position. On April 30, while speaking to Dutch MPs, Dijsselbloem noted that Europe is prepared for various outcomes in the negotiations between Greece and its creditors.
According to Reuters, when asked if there is a Plan B for Greece, Dijsselbloem stated: [Is] the Eurozone prepared for eventualities, the answer to that is: yes.” He also said that the institutions aim for a stable agreement that will lead to reform measures, adding that the Greek reforms list may include a section about minimum wage. Furthermore, he noted that the European Central Bank (ECB) is independent and will autonomously decide about the emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) limit changes.
Dijsselbloem said he hopes that discussions with Greece will become more productive after Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras reshuffled his team of negotiators, sidelining Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, said Reuters.
Finally, when asked about Varoufakis and Tsipras’ statement to Greek media in regards to the various economic reforms they might apply, Dijsselbloem stressed: “I wish that less time would be spent in interviews and more on extraordinarily, conscientiously working on keeping Greece from the threatening abyss.”
