Greek President Welcomes Japanese Atomic Bomb Survivors

Japanese Atomic Bomb Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos welcomed on Wednesday atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki who are travelling on the Peace Boat, a Japan-based international NGO, aiming at informing the world about the consequences of nuclear weapons.
“Respect for human dignity requires the prevalence of peace and democracy,” Pavlopoulos said in his address to survivors who met with him at the Presidential Mansion.
The President also noted Greek-Japanese diplomatic relations are one of the oldest relations recorded in Greek history, as they were first established in 1899. “We maintain excellent bilateral relations, especially since we share a long harmonious friendship, based on shared values. In particular the values of peace and respect for human dignity,” he said.
