SYRIZA radicals reacted to a comment made by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, who said he believes that SYRIZA is not a “normal party.”
Juncker said that he trusts Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras because he is becoming “increasingly responsible” but does not trust SYRIZA because it is “not a normal party.” The party radicals reacted by saying that this is a direct and unacceptable intervention in Greek politics.
As Greece is rushing to secure a deal with creditors in order to breathe financially, SYRIZA radicals, the so-called Left Platform, insist that unless the deal coincides with party policy, the country should default, come to a direct rift with Europe and leave the Eurozone.
The Left Platform, led by Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis, issued a statement yesterday saying that Greece has viable alternatives to solve financial problems, put an end to the economic crisis and move toward development.
The party radicals accuse creditors that they try to force Greece sell out state assets, increase value added tax, and implement austere and painful reforms in pensions and the labor market. They also say Europe propagandizes that a Grexit will be catastrophic for Greece when in fact the return to the national currency will be more beneficial for the country.
