Greek Govt: France, Germany Agree to Ease Budget Targets in Debt Deal

tsipras-merkel-olant Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande agreed on the need to find a solution quickly in the ongoing negotiations duringĀ separate telephone conversationsĀ on Wednesday, Greek government sources said.
The three leaders also agreed on the need to have lower primary surpluses, the same sources said, adding that talks were constructive.
The issue of primary surplus — a state’s budget surplus prior to debt financing — had been a major sticking point between Greece and international creditors in concluding a deal, with Athens insisting on lower targets that would allow themĀ to honor promises to voters andĀ increase public spending.
