Greek PM Tsipras: I Will Only Discuss Greece's Proposal

tsipras-aerodromio-708Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras made an optimistic statement shortly before his departure for Brussels where he will discuss Greece’s proposal with creditors.
Tsipras said: “I’m going to Brussels to discuss the Greek government’s draft deal,” noting that there is no proposed deal on the part of lenders.
Tsipras is accompanied by State Minister Nikos Pappas, government spokesman Gavriil Sakellaridis and Alternate Foreign Minister for International Economic Relations Euclid Tsakalotos. Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis stayed in Athens.
The Greek prime minister’s full statement is below:
“As we know since yesterday evening, the Greek government has formally submitted its proposal to the institutions asking for a fair and mutually beneficial compromise, which will give an end to the crisis in Europe. A deal that will allow Greece to escape this suffocating economic condition and allow room for recovery, while it will give an end to Grexit and other disaster scenarios.
So far we have not received any comments on this proposal, nor any other text, as we know, from the perspective of our institutional partners.
Last night I received an invitation from the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker to travel to Brussels in order to talk in person and I responded with great joy. I’m going to discuss the Greek government’s proposal. To explain that today, more than ever, it is necessary that institutions and especially the political leadership of Europe to accede to realism as we are doing in the past three months. The Greek government is negotiating the rights of the Greek people for the benefit of a united Europe, something that now is more important than ever. We need unity, we must avoid division. I am sure that the political leadership of Europe will do what it must and accede to realism.”
