IMF Chief: Deal is Up to Greece Now

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde told the board of directors of the fund that an agreement over the Greek debt is entirely up to Greece now.
Lagarde briefed the IMF board on her discussions with top European officials over the Greek debt in Berlin. The content of the briefing was not publicised, according to Mega television correspondent in Washington Michalis Ignatiou.
Ignatiou said that Lagarde repeated three times the phrase “it is the Greeks’ responsibility,” reiterating that there should be a deal soon. Reportedly, Lagarde asked the board members for secrecy.
According to the correspondence, IMF’s chief economist Olivier Blanchard was approached and reportedly said that “the closer we get to the deadline, the closer we get to a deal.” He also refused to say if there is going to be a third bailout program for Greece.
