Since the Greek government announced that car taxes will change, luxury car sales have been led to a halt as there is no clear indication of how or when this will happen, journalist Alastair Good mentioned in his article published in British newspaper Telegraph.
According to the journalist, during the period before the Greek crisis, second hand luxury car dealers in Greece were selling several high end cars a month. However, after the Greek economy’s collapse, the dealers realized that things took a different turn.
“Things were so bad here in Greece that people used to come to second hand car dealers and they would come along with their BMW, hand over their keys and they wouldn’t ask for any money at all because all they wanted was to avoid paying the taxes and running costs of their car,” Good explained in his article’s supplementary video.
But the fears that followed suggestions of a potential bankruptcy and an exit from the Eurozone led wealthy Greeks to buy luxury cars again in an effort to secure their cash.
