Doubts Over Meeting Between Tsipras-Merkel-Hollande

merk-olan-tsip-708The meeting between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande on the sidelines of the EU summit with Latin America and Caribbean leaders is in doubt, reports say.
According to reports by Reuters and Bloomberg citing French and German officials, there is no scheduled meeting between the three country leaders on Wednesday evening in Brussels. At the same time, another report in The Financial Times says that there probably won’t be such meeting.
However, information from Greece’s Maximos Mansion says that after the summit Tsipras will have dinner with Merkel and Hollande to discuss the Greek issue. Athens is hoping that the two country leaders will aid in the pursuit of a political solution as technical discussions have stalled again.
Negotiations between Greece and creditors are at an impasse as the latter are not pleased with the latest proposal they received from Athens and they rejected them. Meanwhile, the Greek government has lost one of its most valuable allies, namely European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission, who stated on Tuesday that he will not meet with Tsipras on Wednesday because he is displeased with his attitude over last week’s meeting.
The Greek side claims that lenders have not tresponded to the proposals sent. “The Greek government has submitted its proposal to the (lending) institutions, along with two supplementary documents with specific alternatives on the fiscal gap and the sustainability of Greek debt … So far, there has been no comment or response to the Greek representation in Brussels,” a Greek official said in a statement.
