Cyprus' Leaders Give Further Guidance to Negotiators Ahead of Substantive Talks

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci have given further guidance to the two negotiators in the Cyprus talks, as they are set to enter into a substantive negotiation in June 29.
In statements to the press after returning from a meeting with Akinci, and asked whether they “went deep” in today’s meeting, Anastasiades said “not yet,” but added that the two negotiators “have done a great job in identifying convergences and divergences on all matters.”
This, he noted, allows him and Akinci “to give further instructions for processing based on the interconnected negotiation of chapters, so that on June 29 we actually enter into a substantive negotiation on the chapters that will be before us”.
