Bank of Greece Governor to Appear Before Parliamentary Committee on June 26

Stournaras
Bank of Greece (BoG) Governor Yannis Stournaras was asked to appear before a parliamentary committee on Monday but sent a letter to Parliament President Zoe Konstantopoulou, informing her that he wouldn’t be able to attend before July 6, due to prior commitments and in view of the critical negotiations that are in progress. He noted however that after that date, he would be available to answer questions in parliament.
The Greek Parliament, however, voted with 9 votes in favor and 5 against to summon Stournaras on June 26 (next Friday) before the body’s institutions committee, to provide explanations about the publication of the central bank’s intermediate monetary report.
According to the same decision, Stournaras will also testify before a transparency committee for the out-of-court settlement between the Greek government and German company Siemens during his previous capacity as Finance Minister in the New Democracy-led coalition government of Antonis Samaras.
