'Tsatsiki, Dad and the Olive War': A Swedish Blockbuster Shot in Crete

tsatsiki-film“Tsatsiki, Dad and the Olive War” is the third installment in a series of films by Swedish director Ella Lemhagen, based on Moni Nilsson’s highly successful book series. The film, which will be released in cinema theaters worldwide, was filmed almost entirely in Greece and more specifically on the island of Crete.
In the first 1999 film “Tsatsiki, Mom and the Policeman,” the audience got to know Tsatsiki as a young kid from Stockholm who dreams of returning to Greece and finding his father, a Greek fisherman. Meanwhile, his Swedish mother tries to make a career as a rockstar.
The film won the Crystal Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and was greatly successful worldwide. The second film was released in 2001, following the adventures of the young child.
In “Tsatsiki, Dad and the Olive War,” Tsatsiki finally visits his father and his relatives at the small, picturesque seaside village on the idyllic Greek island of Crete. He discovers that his favorite village has changed a lot since he last visited due to the economic crisis. Homes have been deserted, shops have closed and his father is preparing to sell their property in order to make ends meet.
Filming was completed a few days ago in Sfakia and Loutro. According to the director, almost 90% of the film was shot in Greece and stars Adam Gutniak, Sara Vilén, Liv Mjönes, Jonatan Rodriguez, Christine Meltzer and young Emrik Ekholm as Tsatsiki.
