European Commission President: No Solution for Greece in Today's Summit

Jean-Claude JunckerEuropean Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that there will not be a solution to the Greek debt problem in Tuesday’s summit of Eurozone leaders and said he will ask Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras what the ‘No’ in Greece’s bailout referendum meant.
Juncker spoke in the European Parliament on Tuesday morning, ahead of a Eurogroup session and the emergency Eurozone summit that will be held in Brussels later in the day. Tsipras is expected to table Greece’s proposal on a new bailout program.
“The Greek Prime Minister knows that the question asked in the Greek vote was no longer valid. I’m against a Grexit but we must discuss what ‘respecting the Greek vote’ means,” said Juncker.
“I’m very saddened that the Greek delegation left the negotiating table — you don’t do that in Europe. It was a big mistake. We must try to find a solution. It can’t be done today — that would be too simplistic. Today we’ll pave the way, through talks and mutual understanding, to put things in order. The ball lies in the Greek government’s court,” the EC president said.
Juncker also criticized the Greek government for some of their rhetoric, including what he said were accusations that EU executives were “terrorists.”
