German FinMin Was Reportedly Willing to Pay Greece €50 bln for Grexit

varoufakis-schaubleGerman Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble was willing to offer Greece 50 billion euros to exit the Eurozone, according to Heard in Europe, a blog of EurActiv.
Heard in Europe cites a “high level official” who recently talked with Schaeuble. A French journal called Mediapart said that before the July 5 referendum, Schaeuble had been quoted as asking what the price would be for Greece to leave the Eurozone. However, Heard in Europe argues that based on information it gathered, Scheauble was willing to offer 50 billion euros.
The German Finance Minister allegedly thought this would be a good idea because the Greek government’s ideological position suggested that they would be in favor of leaving the Eurozone. Schaeuble would have been willing to pay the sum if the then Greek finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, agreed to a Grexit.
The source called Schaeuble “a true European” and argued that the German Finance minister does not have any animosity towards Greece and did what he thought was best, even if that required tough measures.
Schaeuble had presented Greece with the option of a five year Grexit plan during the latest round of negotiations in Brussels.
