Greece Takes 42nd Place Among Richest Countries in the World

richest-countries-mapQatar, Luxembourg and Singapore are not just three of the smallest countries in the world, they are also the three richest countries on the planet.
A recent analysis released by Global Finance Magazine “the most commonly accepted method of determining the wealth of countries and comparing generalized differences in living standards on a whole between nations is to use GDP per capita on a purchasing power parity basis in current international dollars.”
The finance magazine used figures and estimates provided by the International Monetary Fund World Economic Outlook Database for April 2013, in order to rank all countries across the world based on their GDP per capita. According to the index, Greece place 42nd, among the richest countries in the world.
Several small countries such as Liechtenstein, Nauru, the Vatican, Monaco, San Marino and Andorra are not included in the survey.
The index shows that in 2013, wealth was highly concentrated in a few Gulf states, Europe and North America. However, poverty still remains extensive throughout the world, particularly in South Asia and Africa.
The magazine noted that the GDP is not a perfect measure to describe the well-being and quality of life of the people.
