Technical Committee on Culture to Host Concert in Occupied Famagusta

The newly formed Technical Committee on Culture, aiming to promote and facilitate cultural events, which will bring the two communities closer together, has announced its first event, “Our Music Under the Moonlight”, a concert by the bi-communal music group “Kyprogenia” at the Othello Tower in the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta on Tuesday, 28 July, in the evening.
According to an announcement issued here today, the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, are invited to attend the concert, which is open to the public and admission is free of charge.
The spokesman of Turkish Cypriot leader, Baris Burcu, has in the meantime announced in a written statement that the two leaders will attend the event, mentioning that this comes after they have jointly attended a theater production in Limassol in June.
Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. UN-led peace talks are underway between Anastasiades and Akinci to reunite the country under a federal roof.
