Greek Main Opposition Leader: The New Measures Were Signed by The Current Govt

meimarakisEvangelos Meimarakis is officially the President of Greek main opposition New Democracy, at least until the spring of 2016.
On Friday, Meimarakis, who had taken over as the party’s interim President since Antonis Samaras resigned, addressed the party’s Political Committee where he spoke about the current Greek government and accused it of having severely damaged the country in the six months that it has been in power.
“The six months that have gone by, took us back to the deepest points of the crisis. The country was on the path of growth and now we are on the path of recession. We are heading for a recession. Unemployment had began to fall and now it is peaking again,” he said.
Meimarakis also cautioned the government to avoid holding elections and warned of rapid developments.
“We don’t know what the government plans to do. We think it is necessary that the government constructs a plan and proposes other measures because those proposed are recessionary and unfair. We are here to help them. The measures are taken by the government and are signed by Mr. Tsipras and Mr. Kammenos,” Meimarakis said regarding the third bailout deal that Greece is currently trying to finalize.
He also invited “serious and rational” people to join the party, which he called “the party that serves national unity but is not afraid to assume the necessary political cost.”
