Varoufakis: 'Greek Bailout Plan Is a Crime Against German Taxpayers'

Former Greek Minister Yanis Varoufakis gave one more media interview, this time to German news magazine Focus, in which he assessed his six-month tenure at the helm of Greece’s Finance Ministry.
“Even if God and the angels descended on earth to take over the Greek government’s duties in order to prevent any mistakes -because God does not make mistakes- they could not successfully implement the reform plan,” Varoufakis said, adding that Greece’s new rescue plan consists a crime against German taxpayers.
“Of course we made mistakes. Whoever told you that there were no mistakes during the intensive negotiation process must be a dangerous man,” Varoufakis admitted, adding: “Unfortunately, the majority of the Eurogroup did not want to reach an honest agreement with Greece. They wanted to either humiliate the Greek government or overthrow it. That was the plan.”
“I have always believed that rules cannot keep up with macroeconomic reality,” the former Minister noted.
He also attacked the European monetary union and the way it functions: “The Eurozone is ill-conceived. The indisputable proof of this is that there is crisis.”
As for whether he considers that European leaders see Greeks in a hostile way, he claimed: “I do not think that they are actually hostile toward Greece. I believe they do not want to face reality, to face the fact that the Eurozone has made fundamental mistakes.”
Making reference to Greece’s problems, he said: “There are major problems in Greece such as tax evasion, low productivity, lack of competitiveness, problems for which our country should had already received an aid package. Unfortunately, all the money went in French and German banks.”
