Greek PM Tsipras Reveals He Had Knowledge of Varoufakis' Plan B

Speaking inĀ parliament on Friday, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras unequivocally admitted that he knew of theĀ former Finance Minister’s now infamous Plan B.
“Of course, Ms. Gennimata. Obviously, I had personally given the order to the Finance Minister to form a team that would examine a defense plan in case there was an urgent need. I would be naive and irresponsible if I had not,ā€ he said in response to PASOK leader Fofi Gennimata‘s question on the Prime Minister’sĀ knowledge of Varoufakisā€™ actions.
Varoufakis has been under scrutiny ever since reports and a recording had been released of him revealing that he was planning to hack into the General Secretariat of Public Revenue website and establishĀ a parallel paying system byĀ creating reserve tax files forĀ each citizen in case ofĀ banks’ shutdown.
Varoufakis is being threatened with criminal prosecution for his plans.
Though Varoufakis had saidĀ that Tsipras did not approve the implementation of this strategy, the Prime MinisterĀ referred to it as a plan for an online database that would offset debts between individuals and the state.
“This plan is extremely useful. Extremely useful for the euro. For any situation the country is in. Because it reduces bureaucracy, completes quick transactions while it also containsĀ the need for liquidity, which will be constant in the nearĀ future, both for the state and citizens. It also quickly combats the accumulated obligations of the state to individuals, and vice versa,” Tsipras said.
The Prime MinisterĀ denied having a plan to lead Greece out of the Eurozone and criticized those who are accusing the government of a Grexit agenda.
During his first and second response, TsiprasĀ threw jabs at PASOK and previousĀ Greek governmentsĀ for their own policies of submission to international creditors as well asĀ for their scandal-ridden administrations.
Tsipras vocallyĀ supported Varoufakis in parliament by claiming that despite any mistakes the former Finance MinisterĀ made, he is not corrupt.
“While he was Finance Minister, Mr. Varoufakis did not hide the taxpayers’ lists in his drawers Ms. Gennimata, like Mr. VenizelosĀ and Mr. Papakonstantinou. And my colleague, Ms. Gennimata, did not have untaxed money in Switzerland, like Mr. Samaras’ colleague,” he said.
