Island of Kos: Syrians Begin Boarding Refugee Ship

Syrians_KosEarly Sunday morning, 321 Syrian migrants on the Greek island of Kos boarded the Greek passenger ship that will house refugees currently on the Dodecanese island. Thge island has received 7,000 migrants and refugees this past week.
2,000-2,500 Syrian refugees are scheduled to live in the Eleftherios Venizelos passenger ship for 15 days.
A group of migrants who had just been rescued at sea were brought to the entrance of the ferry, an AFP journalist reported, though it was unclear whether they could be received immediately.
Syrians, most of whom have a substandard living on the island of Kos while waiting for permission to leave for Athens, would be allowed to stay on the ferry throughout their registration process, Nanou told AFP.
On Saturday, protests turned violent in the intense summer heat as around 50 migrants  from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran expressed anger that priority for applying for refugee status is being given to Syrians.
Under international law, Syrians have greater rights than economic migrants as their country is torn by civil war.
