Migrants Transferred to New Camp in Athens

550_334_439555About 180 migrants who had camped out at the Pedion tou Areos park were transferred on Sunday to the new hospitality facility in the Elaionas area of Athens.
There was confusion on the number of migrants and refugees who were camping out at Pedion tou Areos since the total number was estimated to be 500. Yet, only 180 of them were present when the Greek police went to the park to transfer them to Elaionas.
The operation started at 4:30 pm on Sunday with the Greek police transferring and registering the refugees. Deputy Immigration Minister Tasia Christodoulopoulou visited the new facility stating that, “I believe that this place should set an example and be a model for such facilities all over Greece where refugees will be hosted.”
Describing the place, the deputy minister said that she hopes the camp will satisfy everyone’s needs. “It is human, it has air-conditioning, hot water and all amenities for people so that they can live in,” adding that meals will be provided for all refugees.
According to descriptions by health ministry officials who inspected the camp, the containers that serve as homes are fully furnished, have electricity and air-conditioning and very soon will have wi-fi as well.
Christodoulopoulou also announced that similar facilities will be established in other parts of Greece as well.
