Greek-French Academy Award Winner Desplat to Close Athens Open Air Film Festival

alexandre-desplatThis year’s Athens Open Air Film Festival will come to an end on Saturday, September 5, with a special screening at the Greek Film Archive.
Greek-French composer and Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat, who performed at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus a few days ago, will attend the special screening of Wes Anderson’s 2009 film “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” in which Desplat composed the original score.
Due to the screening room’s limited capacity, tickets will only be available at the Greek Film Archive on Monday, August 31, from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Desplat is a well-known contemporary film music composer. In 2015, he received his eighth Oscar nomination, while he won the award for his work on the score of Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel.”
Desplat, born in Paris in 1961 to a French father and Greek mother, began playing the piano at the age of 5 and grew up listening to great French composers such as Ravel and Debussy, as well as jazz music. He was an avid cinephile from a young age and he studied next to great musicians.
