Greek Elections Officially Set for September 20; Greece's Parliament Dissolved

06s8tmima1--2-thumb-largeA presidential decree dissolving the Greek Parliament and setting snap elections in Greece on September 20 was signed on Friday. The new Greek Parliament will convene on October 1.
Interim Greek Prime Minister Vassiliki Thanou convened the first meeting of the new Greek cabinet earlier on Friday. During the meeting, she noted that she must ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections.
“All the government members are ready, we will try our hardest so that the elections are conducted in an excellent manner and so that all other issues that could arise will be resolved as quickly as possible,” Thanou said.
The new Greek cabinet consists of 23 ministers who will serve their posts for a little over three weeks.
“The transitional government is composed of people who are as widely accepted as possible. It is thus composed of distinguished personalities from the sciences, politics and art. I thank all the members of the ministerial meeting for their acceptance to participate in the government,” she further added.
Although Thanou will be at the country’s helm for less than a month, she noted that she may have to deal with significant issues like the country’s migration crisis and the beginning of the new school year.
