Greek Vacationers Rescue Syrian Migrant Stranded At Sea

MigrantA Syrian refugee, named Mohamed, was rescued by a group of Greek vacationers on their way home from an excursion to the Greek isle of Pserimos, near Kos, after being stranded at sea for 13 hours, wearing only a life vest.
At first, the Greek vacationers steered their boat to avoid the man, who was initially thought to be a diver. After a while, though, they realized that they were facing an unprecedented incident.
“I looked at him and he needed help. I immediately screamed to my friend who was driving our boat to turn around, because this man needed help,” said Sandra Tsiligeridou, a member of the group.
Her friends agreed to help the Syrian man get out of the water and immediately contacted the Kos port authority, while Tsiligeridou wrapped towels around him to give him some comfort.
Mohamed had departed at 5:00 am the same day along with other 39 Syrian refugees for the Greek island Kos. It is said that the man jumped into the water in his attempt to grab one of the raft’s oars that was knocked into the water by a huge wave.
The boat carrying the rest of the undocumented immigrants finally arrived in Kos around noon and Mohamed’s family immediately reported the man as missing.
