UNSG Supports Cyprus Talks and Is Encouraged by the Leaders

anastasiades-ban-ki-moonUN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, is encouraged by the commitment of the two leaders to continue to work tirelessly on a complete settlement of the Cyprus problem, he told a press conference.
Ban Ki-Moon said, “I am encouraged that the two leaders are meeting and negotiating in an analytical way, since the official start of negotiations on May 15.”
“Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots are approaching the talks in a positive, constructive, and goal-oriented way for a settlement of the problems,” he said. The UNSG added that this has created a fresh and important dynamic and significant progress in the talks.
Regarding September 14 and the meeting Nicos Anastasiades and Mustafa Akinci will have, Ban Ki-Moon said he was encouraged that the two are willing to work tirelessly with the goal of reaching a complete settlement as soon as possible.
Ban Ki-Moon welcomed the decision of the leaders to meet more frequently and said that he looks forward to meeting with the leaders at the UN General Assembly to add his political support.
