4g-network (2)OpenSignal, the telecommunications coverage mapping company has released a new report regarding the state of 4G LTE coverage worldwide for the third quarter of 2015.
“OpenSignal calculates “time coverage” by taking a reading from devices every 10 to 15 minutes to see whether they are connected to a 2G, 3G, or 4G network. The company then takes the proportion of time per mobile device, takes the average, and comes up with each telco’s level of time providing 4G coverage,” noted the website ZDNet.
In regards to speeds, Greece was placed in ninth place, alongside Australia, with an average download speed of 21 Mbps, while New Zealand was placed first with an average download speed of 36 Mbps. OpenSignal also ranked Greece’s telecommunications carriers: COSMOTE was in first place with an average speed of 26 Mbps making it the 12th highest ranked carrier worldwide, Vodafone in second with an average speed of 19 Mbps and WIND in third place with 7 Mbps. Overall, Greece’s 4G LTE network has 20% better coverage than the worldwide average.
In regards to coverage, Greece did not fare so well and was placed among the last countries on the list. Meanwhile, Australia is ranked 14th in the global 4G coverage, after South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore, Uruguay, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Bahrain, the United States, Sweden, China, and Qatar.
