International Officials Set to Visit Greece this Week for Greek Bailout Evaluation

greece-bailoutThe international technical staff for the first evaluation of the Greek economy within the framework of the memorandum is expected in Athens at the end of this week.

The completion of the evaluation is connected with the disbursement of the 2+1 billion euro tranche and the agreement on debt settlement. The first officials to come are expected to focus on fiscal and banking issues. Thereafter, officials will deal with energy issues and public administration.
According to sources, the first phase of the evaluation will be completed by October 15th and will have to do with whether, and to what point, the legislation of provisions on the agreement with lenders has been implemented. The evaluation includes the government’s plan on bad loans, speeding up of licensing for companies, the abolition of a 20 percent discount on electricity tariffs for industries and the strengthening of the role of the tax administration.
The second phase of the evaluation to be carried out after October 15th will focus on the 2016 budget, the new mid-term framework, the social security system; the new tax measures, the final solution on bad loans, and the implementation of the reforms included in OECD’s toolkit. The heads of international institutions are expected to arrive in Athens after the Eurogroup meeting on October 5th.
