Refugee Boat Capsizes Near Mytilene; Woman and Young Child Tragically Die in Waters

MytilineTwo refugees, a young child and a woman lost their lives when the boat carrying them from the Turkish coast to Greece capsized on Wednesday morning, September 30th, off the coast of the Greek island of Lesvos.
Hellenic coast guard officers were able to rescue 47 refugees who were not injured during the incident. The rescue mission was completed around 11:30 am, and no people were reported missing.
The refugee boat was spotted by a ferry on route from Mytilene to Ayvalık around 9:20 am, when the Greek authorities were alerted.
The boat capsized due to the high winds reaching up to 5-6 force on the Beaufort scale, while the people on board screamed for help.
The woman who was killed during the incident was found hugging a child who had also passed away. The Greek authorities assumed that she was the mother of the child.
According to local news, the rescue operation officers were able to pull an unconscious child out of the water and were able to keep the infant alive by performing CPR.
