U.S. Secretary of State Kerry to Visit Greece in November

keri-708_0U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will visit Greece in November, after the talks he had with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The prime minister’s meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State was a success, according to a government source. The U.S. official told Tsipras that he had followed with great interest the process of negotiations between Greece and its lenders and was impressed by the fact that the Greek side had a strategy.
Regarding the name of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kerry pledged to make efforts to resolve the issue. The Greek prime minister argued that as a NATO ally and a neighboring country, it is to the interest of FYROM to be more cooperative with Greece regarding the name.
The two officials also discussed energy issues, Cyprus and the refugee influx. The U.S. Secretary of State said that he will make a formal visit to Greece in November to discuss further, according to a government source.
According to Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, before Kerry’s visit there will be a preparatory visit of Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland.
