Over the last few days people have been trying to figure out which Greek island will be turned into the Davos of Greece.
Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas announced that he was planning on creating a summer tourist destination that would resemble the Swiss city. Davos is in the Swiss Alps, within the canton of Graubünden and is a popular winter sports destination with a conference center that hosts the annual World Economic Forum.
According to an exclusive article published in Saronic Magazine, the island chosen to be the Davos of Hellas is Spetses. The magazine quoted several sources who revealed that a long meeting had taken place before the election in order to determine which Greek island had the potential to be turned into a cultural center for tourists. In fact, according to sources, the initiative to exploit Spetses’ potential is supported and assisted by local governing bodies.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in line with Mardas has not revealed any information, and they insist on not giving out any further details. However, at the same time, no one is refuting or confirming the information uncovered in Saronic Magazine.
According to the publication the project is still in its early stages.
“We found an island that will be turned into an art, culture and philosophy destination. A summer Davos,” said Mardas during his speech in parliament. He also explained his plans to organize conferences and lectures on the island, by famous foreign intellectuals. This way, he plans on making Spetses known across the world.
“We have found an island and we are conducting the relevant research. We named it the island of art and technology and we plan on turning it into a summer Davos in order to invite states and organizations to host conferences on the island, said the Greek Deputy Foreign Minister.
