U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew reiterated the importance of Europe following through on its commitment to put Greece’s debt on a sustainable path through debt relief, in a meeting with Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos.
The U.S. official also said that Washington continues to monitor closely Greece’s financial situation, confirming the importance of continuing the implementation of reforms by the Greek government.
In their first meeting since the September elections in Greece, Lew praised Tsakalotos commitment to finding a constructive way for the country to proceed within the Eurozone, according to a spokesman. He also expressed his concern about the refugee crisis in Europe and conveyed his support for all efforts to prevent further hardship through a comprehensive European response.
