International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde assured Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos that the fund is ready to work with Greece to promote the country’s reform program.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Bank-IMF summit in Lima, Peru. According to IMF sources, the Greek minister briefed Lagarde on recent developments in Greece, and particularly the progress of the reform program.
Tsakalotos said that the IMF chief supports the effort of the Greek government to complete the first evaluation on time so that the green light is given for the recapitalization of Greek banks before January 1, 2016.
The finance minister also stressed that a substantive discussion on debt will then start in order to create the right conditions for Greece to turn the page and exit the crisis.
On her part, Lagarde said that the IMF is prepared to work with the Greek government to promote the country’s reform program.
