Seven People Dead After Greek Coast Guard Boat Hit by Migrants' Boat

Lesvos_refA Hellenic Coast Guard boat that was on its way to conduct a rescue operation in the East Aegean seas was hit by a boat that was carrying migrants and refugees off the shore of the Greek island of Lesvos on Thursday morning, according to Greek media reports.
The migrants’ wooden boat reportedly could not be easily navigated due to the strong winds and overturned upon the collision.
Thirty-one people who were on the boat were rescued, while seven people have been confirmed dead and another one is still missing. ANA-MPA reports that the seven who drowned were four children including an infant, two women and one man.
A search operation for those missing is currently underway with the two coast guard boats being assisted by Frontex.

14,000 bags with toys awaiting child-refugees on Lesvos

Three Dutch women created the website www.bagtothefuture.eu asking from children in Amsterdam to prepare a bag with toys that will be offered to child refugees that arrive in Mytilene (Lesvos island), as a welcome gift. The idea was welcomed by tens of schools and thousands of children. The first bags reached their final destination last Tuesday.
Refugees who speak English are helping the seven Dutch women communicate with the children.
