Accepting More Refugees Could Improve Bailout Conditions for Greece According to Report

The refugee crisis is allegedly a bigger priority than the implementation of the Greek bailout for the German government and that could influence how each of the two is managed.
German weekly magazine WirtschaftsWoche cites German government officials who claim that the German government’s priority is for more refugees to stay in Greece, according to Greek media reports. In exchange for Greece agreeing to allow more refugees to stay in the country, Germany could ease its bailout demands on Greece.
The two European countries are arguably the two biggest protagonists in the ongoing refugee crisis, albeit on different ends of the spectrum. Greece has been the main entry point, with almost 450,000 refugees and migrants having entered since 2015 according to the United Nations refugee agency. On the other hand, Germany is the main destination for migrants, as asylum seekers flock to Europe’s biggest economy to seek refuge.
