Greek Head of Public Revenues Facing Felony and Misdemeanor Charges

savvaidouThe Greek General Secretary of Public Revenues Katerina Savvaidou will have to testify in front of Greek prosecutors next Wednesday facing felony and misdemeanor charges.
Savvaidou is being charged with a felony for deciding to review a 78 million euro fine imposed on a Greek company. The issue is that the fine had already been ratified by a tax arbitration committee before Savvaidou chose to call for its review. ANA-MPA reports that it has been two and a half yeas since Savvaidou’s decision and the review has yet to be completed.
Prior to this charge, Savvaidou already had  a misdemeanor charge against her for breach of duty, in this case for extending the deadline for a payment Greek TV stations must make to the Greek state. Greek law dictates that Greek TV stations must give 20% of their revenue from advertizements to the Greek state. Although networks have one month to make the payment Savvaidou allegedly extended this timeline back in January 12, 2015.
