Conflict in Greek Parliament Over Letter on FYROM Naming Issue

kotzias-708_12Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias criticized opposition parties for revealing the content of a letter sent to them by the government asking for their opinion on the name of FYROM issue.
Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos revealed the content of the letter that Kotzias has labelled as classified. The foreign minister said that discussions in the National Council on Foreign Policy are classified and shouldn’t be made public.
Opposition parties New Democracy and PASOK claimed that the letter was not labelled as classified, while Golden Dawn accused the foreign minister for having discussions on the name of FYROM without briefing the parliament.
Kotzias noted that the document was classified and urged parties to avoid playing games with issues of national importance. “I understand that parties have internal problems and personal rivalries but they should not involve national issues,” he said.
New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis asked Kotzias to call for a new meeting of political party leaders, chaired by the President of the Republic and discuss the issue again.
