U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew spoke with Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem by telephone on Friday and urged the European Commission to provide meaningful debt relief to Greece, a Treasury spokesperson said.
According to Reuters, Lew said the U.S. continues to closely monitor Greece’s economic situation, reiterated the importance of the Greek government implementing necessary reforms and added that the International Monetary Fund “should remain engaged with all parties,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
Lew also spoke with Italian Finance Minister Carlo Padoan and France’s Finance Minister Michel Sapin.
