Greeks Have an Average Life Expectancy of 81.4 Years

Life expectancy risesThe Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has ranked its member countries’ average life expectancy based on data from 2013.
Average life expectancy at birth was 81.4 years for Greeks, the OECD reports. There is a high discrepancy between average life expectancy between Greek women and men. Life expectancy for women was 84 years compared to 78 years for men, on average. Greeks have the OECD’s 14th highest life expectancy at birth average.
The OECD also presented data for suicide rates based on 2013’s available information. With a 4.2% suicide rate, Greece is third from last in the OECD’s suicide rate ranking. Only Turkey and South Africa had smaller suicide rates.
